Was this sexual harassment?
I am currently a student and worked in an office for a year before Uni. The supervisor constantly made inappropriate comments such as 'why do you never wear a skirt, you should get your legs out more' and sometimes tried to put his arm round me when helping with work at my desk. I found this embarassing and didn't know to react. At the end of my time at the company, I mentioned his behaviour to HR but last summer, when I returned, he was just the same.
I feel confident enough to cope with him, but why should I have to?

It may be harassment
It is unlawful for someone to subject you to unwanted conduct of a sexual nature, which is intended to or does violate your dignity, or which creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for you.
If your supervisor's actions were unwanted, and if they made you feel any of these things, or if he intended them to make you feel these things, his behaviour was probably harassment.
Since going to HR doesn't seem to have had any effect, maybe you could try talking to a senior manager at work?
Do remember that if you are thinking of bringing a case, you must generally do so within 3 months (less one day) of the last act of harassment.
Have a look at the 'sex discrimination' page on WEN for more info.

Poor you, you're absolutely
Poor you, you're absolutely right you shouldn't have to put up with this kind of behaviour

I can remember in an early
I can remember in an early role job having to put up with inappropriate behaviour and comments from a very senior member of the management team. It wasn't just me, he was like it with everyone. As practically the most junior person in the office it didn't even occur to me to make a complaint. I just avoided him and didn't hang around in that particular job.

Thanks
Thank you for your comments, I am hoping to return to the office this summer and so will definitely speak to HR if the situation is the same with a clearer understanding of the law to make my point!
